1/28/2024 0 Comments If you like the expanse books![]() ![]() Slowly, the SSA begins to terraform the inner planets. In the latter half of the 21st century, these three alliances jointly form the System States Alliance ("SSA") for the purposes of exploring and colonizing the solar system. Three of these alliances that grow to be superpowers are the Russo-American Mercantile ("RAM"), the Indo-Asian Consortium ("IAC"), and the Euro-Bloc Faction ("EBF"). This war causes many governments of Earth to abandon conventional warfare and embrace large alliances. In the year 1999, the Soviet Union and the United States are involved in the "Last Gasp War." This is the world's first nuclear war. The setting of XXVC is a possible future of the real universe that we live in. You will eventually gain a ship on your own which you can fly around in (in our solar system) and can partake in ship-to-ship battles, even board enemy ships with your party which is essentially a 6 man Sci-Fi D&D party. It is in fact my all time favorite Sci-Fi RPG. The lore and gameplay however is top notch. That said, the music and graphics isn't great. Best bet is to play the Megadrive / Genesis version which added sound, music and improved the graphics. I don't think there are aliens, but there are humans that have been genetically engineered to suit different habitats (Venus, Mars e.t.c.) which in turn changed their appearence to be more alien-like.īut like I said it is very old, the original PC (DOS) version didn't even have music and sound consisted of computer noise. Like the Expanse it is in the near future and only takes place in our solar system. It takes place in the Buck Rogers XXVC setting. LeGuin.Yes, a very old RPG based on Dungeons & Dragons called Buck Rogers Countdown to Doomsday. Ty: "I became a huge Joe Hill fan when I read him in Don Joseph Adams' zombie anthology." "And I've read everything Stephen King has ever written."Īs for their next space opera project: "it's the disappointing love child of Frank Herbert and Ursula K.Daniel: "There's a really awesome YA novel about vampires called Peepsby Scott Westerfeld.".They've had less time to keep up with current releases, though a few books stand out: The Will to Change is the one I always hand out to people." And one surprising author has left a lifetime impression on him: "bell hooks is one of the best thinkers on American culture I've ever run across.Pretty much anything I could stuff in my eye holes." I ended up reading Margaret Atwood, probably way too young. I had a bunch of Larry Niven and Arthur C. He had an astonishing creativity-he invented cyberpunk as an aside!"ĭaniel's tastes tended to be more wide-ranging: I don't think I've ever read anybody since then who can use more novel-length ideas as background info than that guy. And on the novella's author Alfred Bester: "he'd throw out five novel-length ideas per page. And then you get to Gully Foyle in this novella he's an awful human, but he's fascinating." All the other scifi and fantasy I was reading there were heroes. It's not a good book for an 11-year-old, but I read that novella a dozen times. "I had a novella collection that included 5 classic novellas, one of which was The Stars My Destination.I read Isaac Asimov's collection Before the Golden Age cover to cover a bunch of times." I had dozens of collections of short stories. "I was really, really into short stories."I had all the Tolkien stuff-and the Tolkien rip-off stuff too! As long as there were elves and sword fights and the occasional elf - I was reading it.".Growing up, Ty was a big fan of science fiction and fantasy: I loved that book for years before they adapted it - and I was very pleased with the adaptation." "I'm a huge fan of The Queen's Gambit."The first couple seasons of Game of Thrones when it was based on the books: I think most fans were thrilled with that adaptation."." The Martian was a fantastic adaptation of Andy 's book.".It should come as no surprise that Ty and Daniel have strong views about what constitutes a good book-to-screen adaptation:
